The purpose of the Holy Cross Hispanic Ministries Committee
In December 1976 a large number of Holy Cross religious and people who work with them gathered at St. Edward's University in Austin, TX. These priests, brothers, and sisters were aware that the number of Hispanics--Mexican-Americans, Mexican immigrants, Puerto Ricans, Central Americans, and other Latino groups--was growing very rapidly. Their spiritual, social, educational, and other human needs were not being met.
From this large meeting, a small number of Holy Cross religious continued to meet. From their work, they requested that the various branches of Holy Cross nominate two people:
At least in modern times, this was the first collaboration across all branches of Holy Cross. It is still active in all branches today.
