The purpose of the Holy Cross Hispanic Ministries Committee

In December 1976 a large number of Holy Cross religious and people who work with them gathered at St. Edward's University in Austin, TX.  These priests, brothers, and sisters were aware that the number of Hispanics--Mexican-Americans, Mexican immigrants, Puerto Ricans, Central Americans, and other Latino groups--was growing very rapidly.  Their spiritual, social, educational, and other human needs were not being met.

From this large meeting, a small number of Holy Cross religious continued to meet.  From their work, they requested that the various branches of Holy Cross nominate two people:

• For the men, two from each province 
• For the Sisters of the Holy Cross, two sisters from each region 
• For the Marianites of Holy Cross, two sisters  
• For the Holy Cross Sisters, two sisters.  
• There was also to be a link to the men's and women's superiors.

At least in modern times, this was the first collaboration across all branches of Holy Cross.  It is still active in all branches today.

The purposes of this grouping are

• support for individual and small groups of Holy Cross religious who are still very often isolated
• support for the young Hispanic Holy Cross religious 
• continuing professional education about this specialized ministry 
• the creation of awareness in Holy Cross and the Church about the growth and needs of the Hispanic community in the United States and Mexico.

Our meetings are always open to all Holy Cross religious.
